Application for Employment Authorization
Lets people who already hold a category that authorizes it apply for a work permit (EAD). It does not grant status on its own.
We request it from uscis.gov the moment you open it and we keep no copy. That is why we cannot hand you a stale edition: what you see is what USCIS is publishing right now.
It will be saved as i-765-ed-08-21-25.pdf
The form is USCIS material — public information that may be copied and distributed. The official page for this form is its record on uscis.gov (opens the official site in a new tab)

Base fee of $520 on paper or $470 online ($50 discount). Many humanitarian categories are $0. The asylum, TPS and parole categories add a separate, non-waivable surcharge under Public Law 119-21 (HR-1). Premium Processing (Form I-907) exists only for OPT and STEM-OPT: $1,780. This is a general list; confirm the exact category on uscis.gov.
The base fee can be waived with Form I-912 in eligible categories, and many humanitarian categories are already $0. Never waived: the DACA (c)(33) fee and the Public Law 119-21 surcharges.
The base fee and the Public Law 119-21 surcharge, where it applies, are paid separately. By mail you pay by card (Form G-1450) or by debit from a U.S. bank account (Form G-1650); USCIS no longer accepts checks, money orders or cashier's checks on paper, unless you request the exception with Form G-1651.
We generally recommend you file a Form I-765 to request a renewal Employment Authorization Document (EAD) up to 180 days before your current EAD expires. To renew your Employment Authorization Document, file Form I-765 at least 90 days before the expiration.
